FSM Sustainable Energy and Accompanying Measures (SEAM)
The FSM Sustainable Energy and Accompanying Measures (SEAM) project, funded by the European Union through the European Development Fund (EDF11), was awarded to the Federated States of Micronesia to support the FSM’s energy development needs. MCT is the lead implementer of the third component of the project “Increasing women’s and civil society organizations’ participation in the energy sector”. MCT is implementing this specific component in collaboration with the Chuuk Public Utilities Corporation, Chuuk Women’s Council, Chuuk Energy Working Group (EWG), COM-FSM Career and Technical Education Center, and the Pacific Community (SPC). The project aims to provide affordable, reliable, and environmentally sound energy to communities in Chuuk by:
Increasing CSO participation in the energy sector, specifically jointly delivering on state and national energy priorities with the government
Increasing remote communities’ access to renewable electricity and providing improved economic and sustainable opportunities
Empowering women through training in solar engineering and livelihood skills, leading to increased participation and representation of women in community-based actions and decision-making.
The project targets the islands of Weno, Tonoas, Fefen, Parem, and Piis Paneu as was recommended by the Chuuk EWG.
